Ceramics teaches you resilience whether you want to learn it or not. 14 years of making ceramics and the lessons continue. This month I’ve unloaded problem after problem from the kilns and yes, it’s been frustrating. But it’s also been calming and reassuring to know that clay (the earth) lives by it’s own natural code, not the rules of “Monthly Artist Original releases” or “Limited Editions.” We can all learn something from this innate truth.
Sooooo.. what does this mean for us? I took time to redirect, to pivot, to steer around obstacles and I listened to my art. This upcoming week I’m releasing the surviving Serving Bowls (less than half of the laborious work I made) and I created a Limited Edition that is familiar in a sense... but totally new— the first time were ever offering these products glazed this way. This collection is all about resilience and learning to trust the beauty of the way things naturally are. Working with dirt/clay, and crushed minerals and stones for my glazes, real gold, and heat and oxygen to make my porcelain pottery reminds me that I’m only a guide to this process at best. And that can be freeing and beautiful, not restricting and frustrating.
This work goes live on Wednesday 5/22. What time do you want the launch to go live??
You have good taste and like nice things. (Hi! 🙋🏻♀️Same here!) You also deserve heirloom quality porcelain that feels like *you* and not those stuffy “fancy” plates you put on your wedding registry but never use. Objects of use can also be objects of art and joy!
We’re working hard in the studio to make the work that best represents YOUR life, the way you entertain, the shapes and surfaces that feel fresh and exciting for YOU. This confetti entertaining set was a custom set we wrapped up earlier this month and I’m utterly obsessed with those brushstrokes of real gold! The drama, the playfulness, the effortless elegance! More of these feelings for the table. Less stuffiness. You guys get it!
Teaching artists *HOW* to sell their work online @thestudiosource with @alliedattilio has opened so many new doors, changed the lives of other artists, and it’s been one of the most fulfilling things I’ve done in a long time! If you’re an artist come learn with us! I’d love to hear about the most fulfilling things you’ve done lately in the comments! Happy Friday everyone let’s spread some gratitude!
You only have one wish: what design, color, or product would you bring back from our past collections? I’ve had this on my mind ALL day and my list is still so long! Lace cheeseboards? Baking dishes? Nesting serving plates? Palette cheeseplates? Or maybe these cobalt splatter pieces? How do you pick?! What’d be your one wish?
