I didn’t post a birthday picture or one of those “donate to my fundraiser” campaign links on Facebook this week because I wasn’t really sure what I wanted. Today, after a chat with an old friend, I know what I want. I want YOU to let me give back. Kindness/giving blesses the receiver AND the giver, so we both win. Feel free to tell me you need comments on your latest insta upload, a prayer, to vote for your entry in some crazy internet contest, prank call your brother in Hawaii, etc etc. Your happiness = my happiness. And, if you don’t have a request, please tell someone they’re beautiful. Anyone. Just make ‘em feel good. #thisis35 🎉
I don’t have any sisters by birth & always felt like I missed out on something grand. I had no idea what that was until today when I saw Rivkah dressing Milli in her unicorn 🦄 bathing suit and ridiculously great matching headband from @reeseshairpieces just for sport. Can we start a support club for surviving a sisterless childhood?
Obviously all the kids followed the bathing suit trend shortly after, so we made the most of it. They went swimming in a warm-ish hot tub bc it hit 70 upstate and OMG SUMMER IS COMING WUNNA THESE DAYS!!!!
Posted a hair-related Instagram story recently but got dozens of unexpected replies asking what my necklace means/who makes it. So here goes... An initial for each of my kids: Benjamin, Rivkah, Avi, David, and Milli. Thin gold chain, flat & hammered tiny tags. Made by @isabellegracejewelry — she also makes a bunch of other super cute personalized pieces worth checking out 👌🏽
Did I forget to show you Milli’s Purim costume? She went as a glittery little love creature 💕 ...also, best news ever, this #accreta warrior baby is over 8 lbs now!
Thanks for the headband aunt @vidagruberchavez!

In 1999 I desperately wanted to see the utterly filthy American Pie movie, but my parents were like “oh hell no.” So I did what any reasonable 15 year old might — I got a summer job at the local movie theater so I could see it behind their backs. Fast forward 20 years, turns out @biggsjason and me use the same @tommeetippeenorthamerica sippy cups for our kids. This, my friends, is the circle of life.
You know who society doesn’t show nearly enough love for? NURSES. They save lives every day, do a lot of the heavy lifting for docs, and don’t get the love and affection they deserve. I’ll be forever grateful to the NICU nursing team responsible for my healthy baby — 40 days of nonstop round the clock care to get her from barely making it to totally thriving. I’m spending the next several days dropping off much-needed NICU goodies like my fave fragrance-free @basqskincare lotions (surgical soap and nonstop hand sanitizer suck) that are safe for hands and contact with the tiniest bodies, chocolate babkas, coffee, and hugs. Gratitude = joy. If you’re ever at Mount Sinai West in #NYC and run into Gisele (2nd slide), she’s an angel. Hug her for me.
PS thanks to the Basq folks for shipping my giant order crazy fast 💨
FYI: my 6 year old, Rivkah, wants everyone in #NYC to know that @trollstheexperience in Midtown has the best makeup of all time. She went a couple weekends ago and hasn’t stopped talking about it, and as a makeup enthusiast myself, I can relate to this level of happiness. ALSO, HOLD ONTO YOUR SHEITEL, THEY ALSO OFFER WIG STYLING 🤣 ...link in bio to more info, but it’s open for several more weeks so if you’re in NYC and have a budding makeup artist in your home, GO.
After 40 days and 40 nights, Ms. Milli is home. She started life at about 3 pounds and is now resting comfortably at a *plump* 6 pounds of post #NICU baby steel 💪🏽 🍼 I’ve got all 5 of my babies together now. Life is a dream. 💕
NICU day 34: we latched on! I know it doesn’t sound that major, but feeding a baby directly from the chest honestly is best (for bonding and preservation of natural breast milk probiotics etc), and it happened last night at 11 PM for the first time. This morning I was fumbling around for nursing tops and found a random one my friends at @boobdesign and @9sprinc sent me a while back. I had no idea what the text said, and then I went to my pumping and crying cave (seriously, that’s what it is) in the hospital and caught my reflection. It says “damn, you’re a good mother!” ...and damn, I needed that because between the guilt of having Milli in here so long and not getting to be my regular hands-on self with all the others, I was on the edge of tears. Needed that. And, in the best news ever, she’s doing well at a solid 5 pounds now — and EAAAAATING! 🍼
My husband reminded me today that the whole point of having *things* is sharing — and that even includes milk, so I’m going to share yet another miracle and offer what extra I have.
When Milli was born 2 weeks ago the doctors told me it would be unlikely my body would make breastmilk. Losing all my blood volume and most of my milk hormone-producing organs would definitely stand in my way. This was crushing for me as I had breastfed all four prior children, and the NICU told me my baby was hooked up to dozens of machines and unable to process formula well. I begged nurses to pump me every two hours while I was still strapped to the ICU bed because physical pain is nothing compared to knowing you can’t do anything for your baby — hold her, sing to her, or even feed her something her body will tolerate.
By day 6 there was still no milk and nurses were routinely telling me it was “okay” and I “tried.” I closed my eyes to pray and ask for one more miracle, a miracle every doctor and nurse seemed to think was beyond unlikely — milk. A few hours later I woke in the middle of the night totally engorged in that hospital room. Not just some milk. Lots of milk. Enough milk for more than one baby.
So here I am, still in the nicu every day, grateful I got so many miracles, and eager to share.
If your baby is in one of the Mount Sinai NICU areas in NYC and needs milk, I’d like to pay it forward and share with you. If your baby is outside the Mount Sinai network, I can see how the extra milk can be transferred. This may be especially pertinent for new moms who keep kosher (there are pretty specific Jewish laws around donor breast milk), but I’m open to sharing with any baby/mom in need of any background or persuasion.
Feel free to PM/share if you know someone looking for kosher milk! If not, today is a good day to count your blessings. 💕
