An iconic jewel with an incredible history made by an esteemed French jewelry house @melleriojoaillier. Sold at Christie’s New York for $735,000.
Mellerio Dits Meller is a French jewelry house dating back to 1613. They were granted trading rights by Marie de Medici, the Regent of France. They sold jewelry to Marie-Antoinette and prominent European royalty, and they were the very first jeweler to open a storefront on Rue de La Paix.
In December 1905, the Maharaja Jagatjit Singh of Kapurthala entered the Mellario boutique and purchased this magnificent enamel and diamond peacock aigrette for the royal wedding of King Alfonso XIII and Princess Victoria Eugenia of Battenberg. It was at this wedding that the Maharaja met the young Spanish flamenco dancer, Anita Delgado. The two would be married in less than two years and Anita would become the Maharani of Kapurthala. 👉The beautiful story posted by @edwardian_k#christiesjewels#mellerioditsmeller#iconicjewelry#antiquejewelry#magnificentjewels#royaljewels#althanicollection
