A recent 4th of July tradition that I really love is ‘The Twilight Zone’ marathon (“Rod, White, and Blue!”) on SyFi (moved to another channel this year though). TZ is one of my favorite scifi shows and it’s a perfect slice of Americana. You can easily see the threads laid for Blade Runner in this series from the early 60s. Each episode packs so much into just 22 minutes. Truly an astounding feat of cinema. What’s your favorite episode?
Recently I wrote a blog post about how educators can use the episode ‘The Monsters Are Due Maple Street’ (my favorite episode of the series) for lessons related to history, politics, media, and society. I provide a lesson plan specifically on race, gender, and the Cold War. If there are any teachers or professors out there interested in incorporating scifi into their classes, have a look. I hope this will be useful to anyone out there! I am also cooking one possible Blade Runner lesson, too! —————————————————
