“I'm drawn to stories about identity, how we shape, embrace, and define that — as outcasts or people who don't fit into the molds of their society. I guess it all comes from a personal place. Learning to be true to yourself and feel free to be whoever you want to be in this life.” As part of #Queeroes, we partnered with @jillsoloway and @5050by2020 to produce a series of short films that showed off queer protagonists and their stories. ‘Kiki and the MXfits’ by @_natalialeite_ (who was mentored by the legendary @tanyasaracho!) is a classic high school story that centers adolescent angst and queer teenage rebels. “In creating more intersectional content, it’s imperative that we bring the folks who are least represented to the front.” PREACH! As part of #Queeroes, we partnered with @jillsoloway and @5050by2020 to produce a series of short films that showed off queer protagonists and their stories. @ZackaryDrucker’s film, ’Mother Comes To Venus’ features queer rapper @_mykki_ and trans actress @alexandragreyofficial and tells the story of #Hollywood, except run by trans people. For the second installation of #Queeroes, we’re thrilled to present “another Comes To Venus” produced by @topple, premiering on @them, and created by #5050by2020 advisor @zackarydrucker. “In creating more intersectional content, it’s imperative that we bring the folks who are least represented to the front. The inception of this project for me centered around my love for @alexandragreyofficial, who plays Venus. She was on @transparentamazon season 3. It was one of her first roles, and she continued to get roles in Hollywood that were the typical “ailing trans person in the hospital bed.” She was either “dying because of hormones” or a street-based sex worker.” - Filmmaker, #ZackaryDrucker
World, meet Kiki and her band of Mxfits. The first chapter of our #Queeroes short film series, produced by @topple, is officially LIVE on @them!
Watch the whole film, and read up on filmmaker & Director @_natalialeite_’s vision behind Kiki, via an exclusive interview on them (shared on our FB), and grab tickets to see the LA premiere of the Queeroes series THIS SATURDAY at @outfest! Link in bio.
“We need stories that actually depict how diverse our world is and that in return inspire those people to be in control of their own narratives. I’m always trying to create work with queer protagonists where their sexuality and gender identity is *not the central part of their story*. They can be queer and have the story not center around that.” - #NataliaLeite
@tanyasaracho: ✔️Creator, showrunner, and executive producer of @vida_starz
✔️Leader of the FIRST writer's room in history made up ENTIRELY of Latinx folks.
✔️Mentor on #5050by2020 + @them project, #Queeroes.
When Tanya scored her first gig in Hollywood, on day one she was told, "You do know you're a diversity hire, right?" That gut punch has fueled her ever since to tell the stories of those who simply don't have a voice in Hollywood – especially through her own perspective as a Latina. When she got the opportunity to meet with the fierce executives at @STARZ and they asked her to create a world for Vida's characters through the "Latinx lens," she caught a sacred glimpse of what a more equitable future looks like, and has been creating that space for her cast and crew ever since.
Catch the season finale of #Vida THIS SUNDAY at 8:30pm local time ✨✨✨
And keep your eyes peeled for the premiere of Queeroes during #PrideWeek 🌈🌈🌈
