“In the mind, self is composed of ideas, images, concepts, judgments, opinions, and memories. At the heart level, self is composed of emotions, many of which are in conflict with each other and originate in the mind. At the gut level, the separate self is composed of a simple gut level contraction. It is the most primal and therefore the last form of the separate self to go.
At its core, self is nothing but a contraction of emptiness. It is the survival instinct taking the form of a primal contraction. Ultimately, we transcend this primal gut level self-contraction by being willing to allow the separate self sense to die. This is what it means to die before you die so that you can truly live. And how do you let go of the survival instinct of the separate self? Ultimately by letting go and accessing that which is deeper than the survival instinct.
To let go completely, at the deepest, most primal and fundamental level—there is no “how” other than that. You dive deep enough within, and there it will be. The letting go will happen. And there will be no way back. All will be well, and more well than can be imagined. Nothing will have changed, except everything.
