Recipe for a Self-Healing Flow:
Put all your attention into FEELING your body.
Note: a lot of people abstract what is happening to them in their practice.
They are moving their body + thinking, ‘am I doing it right’ ‘how do I look’ ‘should I be feeling it here.’
In yoga we’re trying to go beyond thought/abstraction— and into a state of not just body-feeling but also gut-feeling or intuition.
That’s where the self-healing happens 🌱🙏 try this and lemme know how it goes! 🙏 best outfit by @splits59
Did you know?
-I used to have horrible chest pain- like a hand squeezing around my heart
-Insomnia because I would run my mind in circles & circles before I’d finally just pass out.
-I felt directionless- I saw how unhappy my doctor parents were, the business people in my family, even the dancers and artists...
Who did I know who was truly happy?
I met @tarastiles when I was 16 while doing a summer dance intensive with @complexionsballet in NYC. When I met her, I thought wow, SHE is truly happy! And after her yoga class, I also felt a little piece of it as well ☺️
That was all it took to get me hooked on this beautiful practice that has changed my life 🙏
Thank you @tarastiles and the @stralayoga fam for introducing me to the most beautiful practice. For all my friends who want to begin yoga, go check out her page now, she has some amazing instructional videos she just posted
Have a beautiful week friends.

There’s one feeling that I’m always looking for in yoga. Can you guess what it is?
My practice constantly explores the boundary of where my body can move ‘comfortably’— that is, up to the point in which the movement feels open, spacious, long, supported, juicy even...
No crunching, forcing, shrinking, collapsing ever ✖️
Even if I am activating and engaging certain muscles, that effort is to SUPPORT the length.
For example in chair pose you might feel an activation in your inner thighs and quads... ALL GOOD- it’s helping to support the length in your spine so you can reach the fingers just one more inch.
In your next practice- look for LENGTH. Get long, get open and feel into the juice friends, happy Wednesday 😽😻 | ps Win these cute jumpsuits over @satyayogawear! Pic by @sfreneenyc

For some reason I feel embarrassed to post this video— it’s not as perfect and certainly not as planned as some of my other videos...
but I think it reflects something important about yoga.
This whole flow is literally that... a flow, continuous, slow movement, transition being more important than ‘peak postures’ or as Mike Taylor says ‘arbitrary waypoints’ lol!
I think it also reflects my preference and teaching style.
-I’m not into holding postures for long periods of time.
-I’m not into trying to go ‘deeper’ by holding longer.
-I’m not much into squeezing or tightening this and that.
-I believe in basic movement and alignment principles that will teach you how to move well from the inside out.
A sentiment reflected by Leslie Kaminoff, “Asanas don’t have alignment, people have alignment.”
Of course basic alignment has its use, but over emphasis on alignment distracts from the real practice- feeling and focus on the breath. What do you guys think? Up for thoughtful discussion... .
