SPIRITWALK Wellness is taking over the world. The latest figures from the Global Wellness Institute – a non-profit-organisation that unpacks where we are at with health, wealth and self – values the industry at $3.7tn (£2.6tn) globally.
On one hand, this is not suprising. The tentacular reach of yoga, meditation, supplements and alternative medicine, have firmly rooted wellness into our everyday routines. But one thing that might surprise you is that the complementary/alternative medicine market alone is now worth almost $200bn and at a trend forecaster seminar yesterday Spiritwalk was one as the influential trends besides sustainability...
NESTING Your home is your nesting place, a safe haven from the realities that lie outside your front door. You want it to be warm, inviting and healthy. Research indicates that certain building features such as daylight, connection to nature, and spaces for social interaction, appear to have a positive psychological and social benefit. Reduced stress, improved emotional functioning, increased communication and an improved sense of belonging are some of these benefits. This is my personal nesting space...➡️For more pics #scandinavianstyle#scandinavianinteriors#interiordesigninspo#naturalmaterials#organicwall#lifestylist
CHAMELEONIC POWER Tilda Swinton, the art-house goddess, holds vast-chameleonic-powers. Ever since her role in Orlando, in which she played Virginia’s Woolf’s gender-bending protagonist—transcending the limits of both sexuality and mortality, has her transformative beauty and the freedom from convention that she seams to live her life inspired me, (and so many)...➡️For some of my favorite Tilda transformations. #femaleactress#femalepower#muse#tildaswinton#elevatedstyle#lifestylist
BEHIND THE SCENES, photo shoot for Joahanna Howard Home and Accessories, a line of Sustainable Luxury home décor products featuring the finest alpaca wool fibers, combining Scandinavian/American aesthetic with the ancient-textile-traditions of Peru. I worked on this shoot as we share similar brand values. SUSTAINABLE Cotton is known as the thirstiest crop, using 2,700 litres of water, equal to what one person drinks in 2.5 years, to create a shirt. Synthetic fibres are the most common in sportswear with less impact on land and water usage, however they emit more greenhouse gas per kg, with double the carbon footprint of a cotton shirt!
Chemical colors and performance coatings also impact waterways, releasing perfluorinated chemicals (PFC) and contaminating local environments. These PFCs enter our bodies when we breath, ingest food, or drink water, while also disrupting eco-systems.
The polluting effects continue once we take the garment home. A fleece jacket can release a million fibres in one wash - so what would you rather wear, natural materials or plastics=nylon/ polyester/ acrylics...?
