“The wrinkled face of the great Castle rock, that piles itself up in the clouds as from a glen in Skye instead of in the main street of a capital city.” - James Bone
I’ve been eagerly awaiting for the trees in Princes Street Gardens to change into their Autumn colours and finally they are starting to! I’ve had a delightful afternoon with mum today. We started with a wander around Old Town then finished with a delightful afternoon tea in the @waedinburgh (Instastory to come soon!) ~
What’s your favourite season? 🌸🌳🍂❄️
“This is the land of Narnia,' said the Faun, 'where we are now; all that lies between the lamp-post and the great castle of Cair Paravel on the eastern sea.” - C.S. Lewis
I don’t know about you but the lamppost in Lady Stairs Close has always reminded me of the lamppost in Narnia! Perhaps I have an overactive imagine, but when I wander around the streets of Old Town, it often reminds me of a fairytale land 🙊
“Just living is not enough... one must have sunshine, freedom, and a little flower.” - Hans Christian Andersen
Ahh Dean Village, you’re a beauty! Here’s a snap from my wander with @francesmehardie last week. We were surprised to see the flowers were still in bloom! ~
Do you have a favourite flower? I’m not sure I do, although I am very fond of pink roses!
“It's always fun when you get to go somewhere new and you get to meet new people and get new experiences.” - J. B. Bickerstaff
Good afternoon from a very wet and dreich Edinburgh! I feel this quote sums up my week pretty well. I had the pleasure of finally meeting three amazing Instagrammers (@edinburghpeople, @maaggss_, and @francesmehardie) this week, who I’ve admired and been a huge fan of their accounts for quite sometime. It was so much fun! ~
I also discovered a new coffee shop (thanks to @maaggss_) this week called Coates Cafe in Haymarket! They have they have these gorgeous tiles all over the cafe. Will definitely be back! Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend, despite being out this morning, I’ve decided to crawl back in bed again 🙈
#AD Hello everyone! Some of you may or may not know that I spent part of my childhood in Malaysia. We used to visit my grandparents once every two years in Scotland and I have such fond memories of day trips in my Di’s (which means grandad in Scots) car then ending up in a cosy pub for lunch! Time’s running out to find out more about how we can help our local pubs stay open, click the link in my bio! #LongLiveTheLocal@LongLiveLocal
“I love walking into a bookstore. It's like all my friends are sitting on shelves, waving their pages at me.” - Tahereh Mafi
Thanks to @polly.florence’s Instagram story I realised it’s #bookshopday! Naturally, I had to share a bookshop snap with you. Edinburgh has so many lovely bookshops like @tillsbookshop, Armchair Books, Edinburgh Bookshop, @goldenharebooks and many more! Are you a bookshop lover? ☺️
“But a city is more than a place in space, it is a drama in time.” - Patrick Geddes
I have to admit I pretty much chose this quote as Patrick Geddes (1854-1932) is one of my favourite Edinburgh figures! I’ve only recently discovered what a fascinating chap he was. He was responsible for the redevelopment of a number of parts of the Old Town, an area effectively abandoned as slums in the late 1700s when the New Town was developed. He believed in cultivating green spaces and fostering communities! ~
I was fortunate enough to have a peek around his home at Ramsey Garden as part of Doors Open Days - will pop a blog post with photos soon 😊
#AD Hello Everyone! Has anyone been to the Roseleaf in Leith? It’s one of my favourites. The interior is quirky, and the food is always so good! Since we’re on the topic of pubs, I’ve recently partnered up with the lovely folks from the #LongLiveTheLocal campaign to raise awareness of the range of tax pressures our local pubs face. Every day 3 pubs close their doors permanently. If you’d like to find out more about the campaign and how you can help ahead of October 29th (Government’s Budget Day), click the link in my bio! @LongLiveLocal ~
What’s your favourite Edinburgh pub?
“If the path be beautiful, let us not ask where it leads.” - Anatole France
Good evening everyone! It was lovely to meet up with @edienthusiast this afternoon and have a brief wander around the Old Town! Victoria Street was looking particularly lovely bathed in the afternoon light, that I couldn’t resist snapping a photo of it ☺️
“Come, let us have some tea and continue to talk about happy things.” - Chaim Potok
I think everyone has some sort of comfort food/drink. For me it’s a nice hot cup of tea. Here I am tucked away in a cosy corner of Rosevear on Clerk Street with a cup of their African tea. What’s your comfort food/drink?
Ps I promise I’m a lot happier than I look, I’m just not great at being on the other end of the camera 🙈
“And the sun took a step back, the leaves lulled themselves to sleep and autumn was awakened.” - Raquel Franco
Happy Saturday 🍂 I’ve recently been really in the mood for Autumn! I’ve searched out my cosy jumpers and I’m ordering hot chocolate from cafes, so when I came across this photo from last October, which I never got around to sharing, I couldn’t resist posting it!
“One should not attend even the end of the world without a good breakfast.” - Robert A. Heinlein
Morning everyone! I had such a lovely time at brunch yesterday that I just had to share a snap. Leo’s Beanery has long been one of my favourite places to enjoy a hot chocolate and read a book, but after yesterday’s delicious brunch, I’ll definitely be opting to eat there more often! I’d highly recommend trying their Croque-mon-scone (a toasted cheese scone with melted cheddar, tomato, and spinach or with Parma ham) it was so good! ~
What’s your favourite Edinburgh brunch spot??
