It’s been a pleasure to stay at the @ResidenceInn these past few days! Comfy beds, great breakfast options, kitchens in the suites, and extremely friendly staff - what’s not to like? Also, I thought it was a lovely touch to include books about New York in the room, I’ve enjoyed browsing through them to get inspiration on how to plan my days!
Keep an eye out for my Instagram stories to follow my New York explorations! 🍎 #AD#ResidenceInn#ExploringNYC
I’m having a great time exploring New York City with the @ResidenceInn and thanks to Will (@brightbazaar) for all his great recommendations! I’ve also discovered a few hidden gems of my own - so keep an eye out for up coming posts and Instagram stories! On Monday, I’ve visited the @metmuseum plus their rooftop garden which has wonderful views of the skyline (pictured below), the very peaceful Conservatory Park in Central Park, Union Square Greenmarket where I enjoyed a pretzel from @martinspretzels, and ended the afternoon with a cookie from @levainbakery
Although, I must say exploring NYC is quite different from exploring Edinburgh - I felt like a country mouse experiencing the big city for the first time on Monday - we even managed to get lost in the maze that is NYC’s subway system - but I finally feel like I’m getting the hang of the city and loving it! #AD#ResidenceInn#ExploringNYC
Just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who suggested places for Will (@BrightBazaar) to visit while he’s in Edinburgh as part of the @ResidenceInn City Swap Guide! I added a few of your recommendations (including Calton Hill, Arthur’s Seat, The Gardeners Cottage, plus more) check out his Instagram story to see where he’s visited so far! Hope @BrightBazaar is enjoying every minute of his visit to Edinburgh! Stay tuned for a few snaps of my exciting time in New York City coming soon! #AD#ResidenceInn
“I love walking into a bookstore. It's like all my friends are sitting on shelves, waving their pages at me.” - Tahereh Mafi
Happy Sunday everyone! I’m sitting in the departure lounge waiting to board and passing my time flicking through some of my photos and here’s a snap from a few days ago when I popped into one of my favourite Edinburgh bookshops, @tillsbookshop, to pick up a book for the flight! I ended up getting a book with a collection of Sherlock Holmes short stories! Do you enjoy reading while traveling? 📚
“Smile, it is the key that fits the lock of everybody's heart.”
Morning! I just wanted to thank everyone again for their wonderful suggestions on my last post. I’m hoping to compile all your suggestions into one blog post and share it! ~
In case you’re wondering where I took this, I was standing at one of the window at the Scotsman steps (opposite Waverley Station’s back entrance). The steps which link Old Town & New Town are designed by Martin Creed and made of 104 different marbles!
Morning everyone! I have some extremely exciting news, next week I'll be participating in a city swap with Will from @brightbazaar and exploring New York City with the @ResidenceInn! I’ve never been to the USA before so you can imagine how excited I am!
Before I head off, I NEED YOUR HELP! I'll be putting together a list of my favorite things to do in Edinburgh and sharing it with Will so he can experience the best Edinburgh has to offer! Please let me know in the comments what I should add to this must-do list and I'll add some of the top recommendations to the itinerary 😊 #AD#ResidenceInn
“What horrible alleys on each side of the High Street, especially downwards like passes of quarries of dark stone. I ventured down one, and hastened back to escape from the spitting of two children who were leaning out of an upper window.” - Dorothy Wordsworth (1822)
When looking for a quote this morning, I came across this rather amusing quote describing what Edinburgh’s Old Town closes used to be like (some still are a little grubby but many of them have hidden gems tucked within and I doubt any children will spit on you - although you never know 😂). PS For those of you who aren’t familiar with the term ‘close’ it simply means a narrow alleyway!
“Logic will get you from A to Z; imagination will get you everywhere.” -
I like to think that they used a great deal of imagination when they designed Victoria Street! I’m planning to go on a little wander around Old Town with my camera tomorrow. Hope everyone has a lovely weekend!
“The world is full of magic things patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper.” - William Yates
Spring/summer turns me into a bit of a crazy flower lady, so despite carrying bags of shopping home, I had to stop and snap a photo of this lovely climbing rose bush! 🌹
“It seemed as if the rock and castle assumed a new aspect every time I looked at them” - Washington Irving
Gosh isn’t Edinburgh beautiful? The view from the Vennel (a set of steps, just next to Mary’s Milk Bar, in the Grassmarket which lead up to Lauriston) of Edinburgh Castle has always been a favourite of mine - I even took my graduation photo here roughly a year ago! What’s your favourite view of Edinburgh Castle?
If you’re looking for somewhere to have lunch, I would highly recommend @gannet_guga! You’ll find them tucked away in one of the Edinburgh Arches (near Waverley) and they specialise in gourmet sandwiches! Before I went full veggie, I used to love their hot smoked salmon, avocado, home pickled beetroot but I recently tried their veggie option which consisted of grilled vegetables and homemade hummus which was great too! 😍 (PS how amazing is their roof!) ~
Also, this is not at all sponsored - I just really like them! Have you been before?
“If the path be beautiful, let us not ask where it leads.” - Anatole France
I took a lovely walk to a few of my old favourite places yesterday! I started with a browse at @tillsbookshop (a wonderful secondhand bookshop), then wandered down to one of my favourite cafes @Strumpets_coffee for a cuppa and brownie. Then walked back through Atholl Crescent on my way home! .
PS don’t forget the Stockbridge duck race is on today at 3pm, plus St Bernard’s Well is open today for visitors 😊
